As an artist, musician, creative, etc, you should be familiar with a press release or "media kit". Musicians specifically should know how to format and send press releases for music marketing and publicity. A press release is an official statement issued to newspapers giving information on a particular matter. Or in more modern terms, "a document or email sent to a blog or publication with specific details and info about something you're doing or something that happened." It's like giving someone "news" about you in a formal way. Below is how to structure a good press release: subject line : ARTIST NAME - PROJECT NAME - DATES body : Pitch your project, single, album, elaborate on what we need to be paying attention to. Explain your inspiration for the music, project, why it should be featured, what makes it unique. Let us know your tour dates, releases, anything else the audience needs to know. Give us a short artist bio and background, influences, style, etc. Any quotes or testimonials said about your work. ending: include social media links, music links, website, video links, professional photo And that's it. You don't want to give the editor too much work to do. They shouldn't have to go fishing for information deep inside your social media or website. (done that too much and it takes up too much time!) Here are 2 examples of a perfect press release sent to us that took no time to publish: Joshua Cadence JT Wicker

Rapper, Joshua Cadence, born in Harrisburg, PA as Joseph Williams, gets his name from one of his favorite Bible characters, Joshua, who took over for Moses and was the one God chose to lead the people into the promised land. “I feel like that’s what I’m here to do: to lead folks into the belief that they can get all God has for them,” and one of the ways he does it is through music, hence the last name Cadence. He began this journey when God spoke to him in the middle of Spanish class during his senior year of high school and told him his life was heading nowhere. At that moment, he knew he needed to surrender his life to Jesus, and his year-long process of giving up one thing at a time (starting with cursing) and studying God's Word began! His latest music video “2020 (Lord Forgive Me) Pt. 2” from his upcoming debut album “Humble Beginnings” has racked up over 4,000 views on the internet and over 150 streams on streaming platforms since its release back in April. Many call it his best work yet! And his 2nd single off of the album, "REAL Pt. 1/ REAL II: Lost on A Good Woman; Found" has just been released on July 1. A music video is also in the works for this one. Check out his latest music video below. Follow on IG: @ OfficiallyCadence Follow on Spotify to catch the album release on August 29, 2020!
Corey Curtis is an indie CHH artist and Minister of The Gospel of Jesus Christ from Memphis, TN. Music has always been a part of his life and so has the pursuit of Jesus. Corey dealt with the pressures of street life as a teen and used music as a way of expressing those temptations and shortcomings. After years of seeking, he found Christ, and his entire life and world view changed. He began scripting his newfound relationship with Jesus through rap and has since created three projects as a result. Corey is signed to a local indie label, Standard Media, which donates 100% of its proceeds to The Standard Youth Ministry of Faith United Methodist Church in the inner city of Memphis. Corey says his newest project, 'Sober Love', is inspired by mindfulness. Being mindful of all that the Father has done for him through His Son Jesus Christ. "That is very sobering. My music expresses not only what was done for me and humanity, but also my response. Both the effect of accepting that truth and also my response. Very sober. Very mindful."
