As an artist, musician, creative, etc, you should be familiar with a press release or "media kit". Musicians specifically should know how to format and send press releases for music marketing and publicity. A press release is an official statement issued to newspapers giving information on a particular matter. Or in more modern terms, "a document or email sent to a blog or publication with specific details and info about something you're doing or something that happened." It's like giving someone "news" about you in a formal way. Below is how to structure a good press release:
subject line: ARTIST NAME - PROJECT NAME - DATES
body:
Pitch your project, single, album, elaborate on what we need to be paying attention to.
Explain your inspiration for the music, project, why it should be featured, what makes it unique.
Let us know your tour dates, releases, anything else the audience needs to know.
Give us a short artist bio and background, influences, style, etc.
Any quotes or testimonials said about your work.
ending: include social media links, music links, website, video links, professional photo
And that's it. You don't want to give the editor too much work to do. They shouldn't have to go fishing for information deep inside your social media or website. (done that too much and it takes up too much time!)
