“For it is just like a man who was about to take a journey, and he called his servants together and entrusted them with his possessions. To one he gave five talents, to another, two, and to another, one, each according to his own ability; and then he went on his journey. The one who had received the five talents went at once and traded with them, and he[made a profit and]gained five more. Likewise the one who had two[made a profit and]gained two more. But the one who had received the one went and dug a hole in the ground and hid his master’s money." - MATTHEW 25:14-18 AMP
What have you been gifted to do? What is your talent? Everyone has been gifted specifically to do something. And it isn't always expressed physically. I can speak for myself here... I don't have an external talent that can be seen. My family is very talented whether it's singing, dancing, rapping, art, crafty...but me? Well, I got just a little of everything. My gifts are internal, something you'd have to ask me about.
All of our gifts and talents are God-given and uniquely used according to our ability. There are four types of gifted people in this world:
The one who has no idea the gifts they possess yet.
The one who knows but ignores them.
The one who knows and struggles to believe or pursue them.
The one who knows, is confident in his ability, and fans them into flame.
Which person are you? I will be honest first, I am between numbers 3 and 4. The fact that I am typing this post, heck, the fact that I started this whole platform is a testament to that. I am gifted to write, to tell stories, to exhort you. I am simply fanning them into a flame that prayerfully will ignite the fire in you.
Circumstances come our way that literally knock the wind out of us. We get into situations that deter us from our calling, and at times we just don't feel worthy enough to answer them. I was and am there with you if you are feeling this way. But I keep telling God our Father, " I want to please You. I want to make you smile." I want Him to look down and say, "YAAAS my child. This is what I designed You to do. You're doing well."
What pleases our Father in heaven?
I am reminded of Hebrews 11:6, "But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him, for whoever comes [near] to God must [necessarily] believe that God exists and that He rewards those who [earnestly and diligently] seek Him." Our faith pleases God. We must have faith in His ability, faith in who He is. If He has gifted you to do a certain thing, won't He give you the grace to complete it? Do you have faith in His ability to use you for what He has purposely put you here to do? WOW. I am speaking to myself.
We all know or should know what happens to the servant in Matthew 25 who buries the talent given him... His master returns and instead of presenting him with results from his talent, he gives His master an excuse. "Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow, and gathering where you scattered no seed, so I was afraid, and I went and hid your talent in the ground."
Does this sound like you?
"Master, I didn't know if this was really what you called me to do. Master, I kept getting discouraged and stopping. Master, my circumstances always hold me back. Master, I felt like you didn't want me to be great. Master, my family and friends said I wouldn't make it doing that, so I didn't pursue it anymore. So I let it go. So I buried it and hoped it would come back later."
Our Master knows that life happens. In fact, He is making it happen :) Hallelujah. But it is never to throw you off of the path He has designed for you. If anything, when He allows life to happen, it is to birth something inside of you. It could be strength, rest, patience, something to help you carry on in total dependence on Him. So don't bury your talent, O ye of little faith. O US of little faith.
"For to the person who pleases Him God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy..." - Ecclesiastes 2:26
