How He Became Godz Warriah

Updated: Aug 13, 2018

Have you ever wondered how Artists get their stage names? Do they represent it well? We had the blessing of asking this question to a Rap Artist going by the stage name, 'Godz Warriah'. His testimony is one that sets souls on fire for God. And honestly, we asked him to share it because he represents his name. We see a warrior for Christ when we see this talented individual....

I grew up in Memphis, TN. I came from a family of believers. Like many others, I come from a strong faith background. I grew up in church, participated in youth plays, youth trips and outreaches. I started doing christian rap at the age of 15. Back then God gave me the name, "Godz Warriah", because the majority of the songs I wrote were dealing with spiritual warfare!! (Ephesians 6:10-18)

God had began to open up many opportunities for me to minister, but because of the peer pressure and persecution I was facing in school, I quit. As I got older, I conformed even more to the ways of this world. I went off to college and completely forsook Jesus and started doing my own thing.  I started to drink, smoke, party, and other worldly things. One day I had a health challenge. My blood pressure was 157/97. The doctor pretty much said that if I did not stop smoking I could have had a stroke. In that moment I had to decide what was more important, my addiction or my life.  I chose my life and started to let the smoking along with my other addictions go, but it was short lived.

In May of 2012 I had decided that I'd had enough.  Enough of the guilt, shame, depression, and heartache. I wanted a better life. I remember my mom telling me, "son the only thing I can give you is the word of God and the blood of Jesus!" And my father saying again, "Son, no matter what sin you may have committed, The Blood of Jesus can wash you whiter than snow." As simple as that advice was, I found that it changed my life.  That month and year, I surrendered to God and got filled with the Holy Spirit! I wasn't trying to rap during that time. Honestly it was the farthest thing from my mind. I was just enjoying this new life, this new peace, and this new joy that I didn't know existed. God brought it to my attention that He never intended for me to stop!

So here I am today! I've been blessed to travel the country seeing young people give their lives to Christ. My second music video, "Soldier Music", received over 50k views in six months! I've received countless testimonies on how this music has changed people's lives!! God has shown me His power, His grace, His mercy, His love, His righteousness, His peace, and His Kingdom. I haven't been the same since! None of this would be possible without Jesus Christ! I just cannot thank Him enough for all He has done in my life!!
